Advancing AI in Education: Enhancing Peer Review Writing with Intelligent Support

On Monday, April 8th, 2024, at 3:30 pm (CET), we hosted our open reading group on “AI for Education.”

We had an exciting discussion centered around the new CHI24 paper “Intelligent Support Engages Writers Through Relevant Cognitive Processes” by Andreas Göldi. The article delves into the prevalent practice of student peer review writing in education, highlighting its importance in fostering critical thinking and learning motivation. Despite its benefits, this process often faces challenges such as high effort and writer’s block. The research explored how Large Language Models (LLMs) can offer a remedy through user-centered design. Guided by the Cognitive Process Theory of Writing, the authors developed an intelligent writing support tool aimed at easing these challenges by aiding ideation and evaluation.

We were thrilled to see such a diverse group of individuals who share our passion for exploring the intersection of AI and education, and who actively engaged in the discussions.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and made the session so enriching. Let’s continue to push the boundaries of AI in education together!
