HAIS Lab goes to ECIS 2026 – Milan

The past week the HAIS lab attended the European Conference on Information Systems in Milan, Italy to present two full papers.

In her work, Katja developed and presented a taxonomy for Generative User Interfaces (genUI). This taxonomy maps the characteristics of GenUI and maps an agenda for future research on the personalization of IS through GenUI. While GenUI presents maybe opportunities for the future of IS, the authors also raise questions regarding how this will affect DevOpps expected skills, how genUI users’ literacy impacts task performance with such systems, and how to safeguard users from ethical practices such as dark patterns. The second full paper was a research project led by Martin on the development of an adaptive reading support system to help with text comprehension. Based on a design science research approach, design principles were derived from literature and user interviews and guided the design and development of the support system. The evaluation of the system presented in this work shows how design grounded in linguistic theory can support non-native English speakers with text comprehension . Link to the article here.

During the TREO Session on Sunday, we also had the pleasure to present a poster on the work of one of our Bachelor students, Lenny Hurni. In his Bachelor thesis, Lenny used a design science research approach to develop an adaptive dashboard for reflective writing to help users develop their skills and monitor them for sustained engagement.
