We are delighted to invite you to the research talk of Julia Chatain, Assistant Professor in Learning Technologies and Distance Education at UniDistance Suisse, where she leads the Chair for Holistic Learning Experiences (CHLX).

Julia’s talk will be about: When technology transforms knowledge, how do we design for human learning?

Critical emerging technologies such as Virtual Reality and Generative Artificial Intelligence are transforming knowledge: they transform what can be represented, how, and by whom. For mathematics education, these transformations bring many opportunities: abstract concepts can now be seen, touched, and grasped. However, the design of learning technologies needs to be carefully executed: technology should not be a distraction but rather meaningfully help students engage with mathematical concepts to support deep learning. In this talk, I will present how technology is transforming knowledge and describe how we approach the design of learning technologies for mathematics education.
