Teaching Excellence Award for Thiemo Wambsganss & Roman Rietsche – Prompt Engineering Master Course

We are very pleased to announce that Prof. Dr. Thiemo Wambsganss and Prof. Dr. Roman Rietsche have been awarded the Teaching Excellence Award 2026 from the Burgergemeinde Bern for their master course “Prompt Engineering: Innovation Through Generative AI”. The teaching excellence award recognises educational initiatives of outstanding pedagogical merit.

The aim of this course is to enable students not only to operate generative AI technologies, but also to use them in a reflective, responsible, and innovation-oriented manner. The teaching concept is based on a blended-learning approach, in which face-to-face and online phases are deliberately coordinated. Working in teams, students develop their own prototypes based on prompt engineering to address specific problems from their everyday lives. To ensure students critically assess to technology and ideas they develop, the course combines different reflection and feedback loops, with self-reflection diaries, feedback from peers and lecturers. The “Prompt Engineering: Innovation Through Generative AI” module is part of the Master’s Program Digital Business Administration (autumn semester) and open to all students as part of BFH diagonal program.

This award is a great recognition of our efforts to translate the HAIS Lab’s research findings into teaching practices that improve our students’ learning experiences.
